Life changes quickly

At the start of the year my plan was to blog each week about things going on at the Muddy Homestead. Each month would be a different topic to hopefully bring people insight and some knowledge about homesteading. I'm not an expert but I'm learning along the way. Well this month, was to be about the chickens but I have not done a good job of blogging anything because life changed.

Earlier this month I took my youngest inside dog to the vet because she was losing weight. Come to find out she had a massive tumor in her chest with multiple smaller ones around it that where pushing on her heart and windpipe. The vet was surprised she was doing as well as she was but said he did not give her much time.

It is always tough to get that news, but especially since my plan was that she would be around after the older we're gone. She was younger and more mobile up until this time. The focus daily quickly became doing the necessary things then spending time with her and giving her the best ending to life.

As she began to struggle more with activities and trying to be comfortable laying down the decision was made to put her to sleep. A vet was located that was able to come to the house, so as not to stress her more and to allow the other two dogs to understand what was happening. Her sisters are slowly adjusting to her being gone, especially since they have been using her as their ears and security

Though life does not go as we plan and decisions must be made, I'm reminded that when it comes to our animals, yes they serve a purpose of food or companionship the decisions we make should always be for their best health and comfort.
